Alan felt strangely comfortable here in the Narrows of Gotham City. Well, not "comfortable", but it was somewhere he knew he was needed. Down here, he could fight crime, and do so in a way that didn't require everyone around to be terrified. The light of the Green Lantern would help down here as it had back a few years ago. The JSA had dragged his attention away from here, and he'd left it to the one man everyone who'd ever been part of one of the All-Star Squadron teams was afraid of. The Batman was not a pleasant hero, not at all. And Gotham needed something other than the darkness of the Bat-family. It needed the light back. And light it would have - the light of the Green Lantern!

Gotham City was contrary to Mary Marvel's comfort zone, truth be told. She'd passed through a time or two or three. A couple of times while accompanying her adopted father on a business trip but that had been years ago. Amazingly she had only been here in costume one time. She knew Batman's methods had their place she only wished they didn't all things considered though, despite how many lowlife villains she'd gone up against with the JLA and as far as she had come in maturity terms, she could never bring herself to adapt her style to be as dark as the Dark Knight's.
So what was she doing in Gotham City today? That was the jackpot question. She couldn't really come up with an answer other than the gods seemed to draw her here. Protesting did no good and here she was now, flying overhead through the city limits and into the heart of downtown Gotham City when the glint of a green flame from below caught her eye. The figure was one the Marvel Family knew well and vice versa. It was too much of a coincidence for her not to stop and so she descended and landed quietly behind him as she called out his name in a hushed whisper.
"Wouldn't have expected to see you here. Hello Green Lantern.

It would have been undignified for the Emerald Avenger to to jump at hearing the voice of a girl almost the same age as his own daughter. Thus, he stopped and turned around with a big smile to her after a moment, making sure his ticker was still ticking away. He chuckled lightly and looked at her, a spot of brightness in a city that didn't really have a place for that. He'd probably never get over seeing her as a little girl, but no one was going out of their way to say that was a bad thing. Of course, she was a 'little girl' with the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the endurance of Atlas, and the speed of Mercury. And that was just the ones he remembered. In short, she could hold her own and he was more than proud to call her an ally and a hero.
"Well, hello, Mary! Fancy meeting you here, is there something going on, or did you just sort of find your way here? My goodness, it's been a long time. You know, I've seen the Captain lately, but you... you need to come by the Brownstone more often."

She knew if she could get through this meeting without Alan Scott looking down on her she'd be lucky. Not that he would do so intentionally. He was nice, a gentleman and more than just a little old fashioned in his ideals but if there was one thing that could get under her skin in either of her 2 forms the quickest, it was being looked down on as little or as "Captain Marvel's sister" She couldn't fault them too much. She had been doing the superhero bit for years but now she was a 21 year old in her normal form and still sharing space with the 30 year old champion of the gods. It gnawed at her but she did her best to not let it show.
"I am honestly not sure what I am doing here, Green Lantern. Yet." She shrugged and looked toward the sky for a moment. "Sounds weird I know but it's almost as if the gods were drawing me here, I just don't know why or what for yet. It's a question I'll have to search for an answer for I suppose. What brings you out here?"

Alan shrugged lightly at Mary's question. For most heroes, it'd be an easy enough answer. Why would anybody get dressed up as a mystery man? To fight crime and injustice. The Green Lantern, on the other hand, had been doing it long enough to see heroes become villains (and vice-versa... it still gave him a pang, thinking about Rose). To see justice and injustice. But he was here, mostly to look for a decent fight against a villain. But that wasn't something he could tell this girl. Even if she did sometimes chafe at him being one of the old men of the Society, there was still something in her that made her look up to him - or else she wouldn't have approached him. It meant something to him that even after all these years, the kids still looked up to him. Especially when those kids could probably outdo him nine times out of ten.
"What brings me out here? Mary, in case your being drawn made you not realize where you are, this is Gotham City, and Batman is nowhere to be seen. No Bat-signal, nothing. That means he's either busy with the League or dealing with a villain that he's been tracking. I think we both know the Batman well enough for that. This is my home, and I'm not going to let some villain step on it just because the one he's supposed to be afraid of hasn't shown his cowled mug. Besides. I got a bad feeling this afternoon. One of those shivers that runs down your spine. Figured I needed to patrol tonight. Might be nothing, but might be the Lantern telling me something. Never know what that thing's going to do next, I swear."
