Chapter 1 - Project Rebirth
[/SIZE][/color][/font]It was during the first half of the 20th Century
that humanity became aware of their existence.
It started off as only a few individuals, displaying
powers and capabilities beyond those of normal
humans, telekinesis, teleportation, telepathy,
accelerated healing, super strength, enhanced senses,
amongst others, these special powers started appearing
in the most normal individuals, usually developed
during puberty. Eventually, humanity found a name
for these people: mutants.
Though some tried to help these people, one being
Charles Xavier and even his partner Erik Lehnsherr,
not everyone thought that these people needed nurturing.
Some, thought that these individuals needed controlled.
Because of the high mutant population, and its exponential
growth, United States Senator Robert Kelly presented Project
Rebirth, a government run program that intended to train
and integrate young mutants into a special force, the X-Corps,
a force designed specifically for the purpose of dealing with
dangerous mutant threats, and lead by one of the first test
subjects of Project Rebirth, a mutant referred to only as
Weapon X. The program began receiving wide acceptance,
and soon drafts of a bill that compelled all mutants to register
under the program were formed.
Erik Lensherr the co-founder of the Xavier Institute, became
frustrated by members of the mutant population going missing
amongst other discrimination against their kind, left the
Institute and seemingly disappeared for a short time, before
resurfacing as leader of a terrorist group called The Brotherhood,
under the codename Magneto, and declared war on humanity.
The Brotherhood then started openly attacking Government
and Military facilities that were in any way related to Project
Rebirth. Due to this, the new law found itself earning more
and more popular support.
It was then that Charles Xavier saw the need to intervene,
he assembled a squad of his best and brightest students, as
well as other skilled and talented mutants, with one specific
purpose, to stop Magneto, unveil the truth behind Project
Rebirth, and serve as a peace keeping force between humans
and mutants.
